Featured Mentor: Kristel Emma Buckley
We are excited to announce our featured mentor of the week: Kristel Emma Buckley! Kristel is an editor, publicist and former publisher from the Big Smoke. Most recently, she co-edited the acclaimed anthology, Peach Pit. She is more than happy to talk your ear off about the unfaithful representation of women in history, and her passion is a more equitable, inclusive future for all stories from all voices. She lives in the UK.
When asked what she finds most exciting about the mentorship program, her passion for editing shined through: “Editing is one of my favourite things to do as you get to peek inside a world someone else has created, spend some time there and then ask ‘what if…’. Being an editor is like getting to play in so many different playgrounds and I love to discover new stories and new authors this way! And that is what I am most excited for– finding and reading new stories!”
Great Circle by Maggie Sipstead stills holds space in Kristel’s brain. She says, “I read it a while ago now, but that scene on the ship at the beginning of the book haunts both my dreams and my nightmares.”
