OUR story
Dzanc Books was created in 2006 to advance great writing and to impact communities nationally with our efforts to promote literary readership and advocacy of creative writing workshops and readings offered across the country
Dzanc Books gratefully acknowledges sustaining support from our Board of Directors; the Ann Arbor Community Foundation; Art Works; The Michigan Arts and Culture Council; The National Endowment for the Arts; and other generous contributions from foundations, corporations, and individuals.
As a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, Dzanc:
Publishes innovative and award-winning literary fiction and nonfiction, including short story collections and novels by accomplished and award-winning writers such as Roy Kesey, Yannick Murphy, Peter Markus, Hesh Kestin, Kyle Minor, Michael Czyzniejewski, Suzanne Burns, Peter Selgin, Laura van den Berg, Robert Lopez, Dawn Raffel, Jeff Parker, Terese Svoboda, and Henning Koch
Runs the Dzanc Writers-in-Residence Program, which places published authors in public schools to teach creative writing to elementary and secondary students
Conducts three annual Dzanc Prizes, which recognize innovative, risk-taking, and brilliant fiction in the novel and short story categories, as well as fiction or nonfiction through a third contest which varies annually
Organizes the Disquiet International Literary Program, a writing conference held in Lisbon, Portugal
Creates internship opportunities for students looking to gain valuable experience in independent publishing
Dzanc Books is distributed to booksellers through Publishers Group West.
